Backup Plans are the next evolution in how you activate and manage backups within Backup Radar.

Instead of relying on templates or standalone activations, Backup Plans let you define and monitor backups based on measurable Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs).

This approach brings your backup monitoring in line with your client or internal monitoring expectations, giving you better visibility, reduced noise, and real-time SLA compliance tracking.

In short, Backup Plans help you:

  • Align monitoring to client SLAs and RPOs
  • Get real-time alerts when SLA windows close
  • Reduce ticket noise and focus on what matters
  • Simplify management through centralized configuration

What's changed (for legacy Partners)

If you previously activated backups via templates or standalone activations, the Backup Plans rollout replaces and simplifies these legacy methods for you.

Key changes include:

  • Calculated Status → SLA Compliance Tracking
  • Audit Screen → Daily Activity Screen
  • Next-Day Ticketing → Real-Time Ticketing
  • Ability to define and track RPOs

Backup Plans centralize activation, scheduling, SLAs, and ticket rules into a single workflow. Each plan acts as a container defining how backups run, when they’re expected, and how success is measured.

Where to start

Check out the following articles for a full walkthrough and supporting resources (these guides apply to all partners, whether you’re new to Backup Radar or migrating from templates):

Check out Adding a Backup Plan for a step-by-step guide on creating a new Backup Plan.
Check out About the Backup Plans list view page for a tour of this list view for editing, manually activating or deactivating, setting prioritization order for, and deleting Backup Plans you've created.
Check out About the Daily Activity page for a tour of this consolidated view for managing the active backup results and system alerts ingested from your Backup Plans.
Note: You’ll still have access to the Audit page until you have no backups remaining that haven't been activated with a Backup Plan, and you'll see all your previously activated backups and historical data until you migrate them into Backup Plans. However, after April 30th, 2026, template and standalone activations will no longer be supported.

Frequently asked questions

I already have backups activated via templates or standalone activations. Why would I be interested in Backup Plans?

Backup Plans introduces SLA-based monitoring, real-time ticketing, and RPO compliance tracking, all in one place. It simplifies setup, helps reduce false alerts, and makes reporting far more meaningful.

How do Backup Plans work with templates and standalone activations?

Backup Plans take activation priority. If a backup job is covered by both a Backup Plan and a template or standalone activation, the Backup Plan will override any legacy activations. There’s no need to disable your existing activation methods immediately, but support for templates and standalone activations ends on April 30th, 2026.

What do I need to do?

Start planning your migration. Create new Backup Plans to replace your existing template and standalone activations to align your SLAs and reporting correctly before April 30th, 2026.

Do I need to take any immediate action now that Backup Plans is enabled?

No. Nothing will stop working. Backup Plans was designed to introduce no friction to your current workflows. However, we recommend starting your migration as soon as possible to take full advantage of new features and avoid disruption later.

What happens if I don’t convert my backups by April 30th, 2026?

After this date, all templates and standalone activations will be disabled. New Backup Plans will be created automatically to maintain monitoring continuity. These plans will apply default daily SLA settings, which may cause unexpected notifications due to higher frequency assumptions. To avoid this, migrate manually as soon as you can and configure Backup Plans to your preferred criteria.
