The Active Backup Client Report gives you a fast, account-wide view of which of your companies are actively protected in Backup Radar and which are not. It is one of Backup Radar's Administrative Reports, a category of reports designed to help you monitor the health of your Backup Radar account rather than day-to-day backup performance.
In this article we'll cover what the report contains, how it's generated, how to run it on demand, and the benefits it provides.
Note: The Active Backup Client Report is not date-dependent. It always reflects the current state of your Backup Radar account at the moment you generate it.
Who can use this feature?
- Administrator users.
- Standard users who have been granted access to Reporting.
Before you begin
- Make sure your companies and backups are set up in Backup Radar.
- Ensure your backups have been activated. Only activated backups count toward Active Backup Companies and Active Coverage in the report.
What the report contains
When you generate the Active Backup Client Report, Backup Radar produces a single-page report with two sections.
1. Summary tiles
Four KPI tiles at the top of the report give you a quick snapshot of your active-coverage posture:
- Active Backup Companies — the number of companies that are running at least one active backup.
- Total in Backup Radar — the total number of companies currently tracked in your Backup Radar account.
- Active Coverage — the percentage of tracked companies that have active backups (Active Backup Companies ÷ Total in Backup Radar).
- Unprotected Companies — the number of companies where no active backups have been detected in Backup Radar.
2. Company breakdown
Below the tiles, the report lists each active company with a count of the active backups tied to it:
- Company Name — the company as it appears in Backup Radar.
- Active Backups — the number of active backups Backup Radar is currently tracking for that company.
How the report is generated
The Active Backup Client Report is generated on demand from the Reporting > On Demand page. When you click Generate with Defaults, Backup Radar:
- Queries your Backup Radar account for every company you have configured.
- Identifies which of those companies have at least one backup marked as active.
- Calculates the four summary metrics (Active Backup Companies, Total in Backup Radar, Active Coverage, and Unprotected Companies).
- Builds the per-company breakdown, showing the count of active backups per company.
- Opens the finished report in a new browser tab, ready to view or export.
The Active Backup Client Report has no data-range or client filters — it always runs against your full Backup Radar account. That's why only Generate with Defaults is available (the Generate with Filters option is disabled for this report).
Steps to generate the report
Step 1 — Open On Demand reporting
In Backup Radar, in the left navigation, go to Reporting > On Demand. This opens the On Demand tab of the Reporting page, where reports are grouped into Backup Reports, Compliance Reports, and Administrative Reports.
Step 2 — Select the Active Backup Client Report
Under Administrative Reports on the right side of the page, click Active Backup Client Report. A small arrow appears next to the selected report and the Generate with Defaults button becomes active.
Step 3 — Generate the report
Click Generate with Defaults. Backup Radar builds the report and opens it in a new browser tab.
Step 4 — (Optional) Export the report
At the top-left of the report, click Export Report to open the export dialog. Choose your preferred File Format (PDF, EXCEL, or CSV). If you choose PDF, you can also set the Paper Size (A3, A4, Letter, etc.) and Orientation (Portrait or Landscape). Click Export to download the file.
Benefits of the Active Backup Client Report
The Active Backup Client Report is designed to answer a very specific question: how much of my client base is actually protected right now, and where are the gaps? Because of that, it offers several concrete benefits:
- Instant coverage snapshot. The Active Coverage percentage tells you at a glance what portion of your tracked companies have active backups — no manual counting or spreadsheet work required.
- Gap identification. The Unprotected Companies count and the per-company breakdown make it easy to spot clients that are tracked in Backup Radar but have no active backups, so you can follow up before it becomes a support or compliance issue.
- Backup density insight. The per-company Active Backups count shows how many backups each active client is running, which helps you identify clients with unusually low or unusually high backup counts.
- Client and internal reporting. Because you can export to PDF, Excel, or CSV, the report is easy to share with account managers, leadership, or clients as evidence of coverage and as a driver for upsell conversations.
- Compliance and audit support. A dated export of the report is a simple, defensible artifact showing which clients were covered by active backups at a point in time.
- Onboarding validation. After onboarding a new client, running this report is a quick way to confirm their backups have been activated and are being tracked.
- Zero configuration. There are no filters to configure. Anyone with reporting access can generate a consistent, account-wide view of active coverage in a couple of clicks.
Tips
✅ If a company you expect to see is missing from the report, check that at least one of its backups has been activated in Backup Radar. Configured-but-inactive backups will not count toward Active Backup Companies or the per-company row.
⚠️ The report reflects your account's current state. If you generate the report right after activating or deactivating backups, refresh the page or regenerate the report to see the latest numbers.
