Understanding Bulk Edit behavior in Backup Radar

Bulk Edit lets you update settings across multiple backups shown on the Audit Page. For backups shown on the Daily Activity page, edit the associated Backup Plan instead; Bulk Edit does not apply to those backups.

Backup Radar changes only the settings you explicitly select. Any setting whose change checkbox remains disabled is left unchanged, even if its field appears empty in the Bulk Edit dialog.

How Bulk Edit works

Bulk Edit has two steps:

  1. Select the setting you want to change by enabling its checkbox, such as Change Schedules or Change Tags.

  2. Specify the new value for that setting.

When you confirm the Bulk Edit, Backup Radar applies only the settings with enabled checkboxes to the selected backups.

Note: An empty field does not automatically clear an existing value. The setting must be selected for change before Backup Radar updates it.

Bulk Edit behavior

The checkbox-driven behavior is the same for every field that can be configured in Bulk Edit. A field may appear empty when you open the dialog, but Backup Radar does not change that setting unless its corresponding change checkbox is enabled.

The image below illustrates how this works. In this example, Change Schedules is enabled with a schedule selected, while Change Tags is enabled with an empty field. The schedule will be applied, and the existing tags will be removed, when the change is confirmed. Other fields remain unchanged because their checkboxes are disabled.

The dialog also warns that two of the four selected backups are assigned to a template. Because Standalone is not enabled, Configuration changes will not apply to those backups. Enable Standalone when you want Configuration changes to apply to all selected backups.

Key points to remember

  • Only settings with enabled checkboxes are applied when you confirm Bulk Edit.

  • Leaving a checkbox disabled ensures that setting is left as is on all selected backups.

  • Review the enabled checkboxes and selected values before confirming a Bulk Edit.

This checkbox-based behavior helps prevent accidental changes and ensures that Bulk Edit updates only the settings you choose to modify.
