Hello! In this article, we'll cover how to choose who receives PSA disconnection alerts and API integration disconnection alerts in Backup Radar, both by email and as an in-app banner.

Overview

By default, every account administrator receives disconnection alerts. Most MSPs have specific people who look after their PSA and backup integrations, so not every admin needs to see these alerts.

On the Notifications settings page, you can:

  • Pick which users receive each alert type.
  • Send PSA alerts and API integration alerts to different people. For example, your service desk lead could get PSA alerts and your backup engineer could get integration alerts.
  • Add an email address that isn't a Backup Radar user, such as a shared NOC inbox or a distribution list.

These settings cover two alert types:

Before you start

Only Admin users can view and change notification recipients. Standard, Client and Company users don't see the Notifications page.

Choosing your recipients

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications.
  2. The first time you open the page, you'll see every account admin listed with all alerts selected, and this message: "Default: all account admins receive every alert. Save the list to choose your own recipients." This is who gets alerts today.
  3. To add a recipient, click in the Add recipient field and either:

    • Select a user from the list, or
    • Type an email address and press Enter.

New recipients get both alert types by default.

  4. For each recipient, choose which alerts they get using the checkboxes:
    • All: both alert types.
    • PSA Health Alerts
    • API Integrations Health Alerts
  5. To remove someone, click the X at the end of their row.
  6. Click Save. You'll see the message "Notification recipients saved".

Changes take effect on the next alert. You don't need to reconnect any integration.

Rules when saving

  • Every recipient needs at least one alert type selected.
  • Each alert type needs at least one recipient. If nobody is selected for an alert type, you'll see a warning and won't be able to save until you add someone.
  • Email addresses must be valid, and you can't add the same user or email address twice.
  • You can add up to 50 recipients.

How alerts are delivered

Email

Once you save your list, only the recipients selected for an alert type get its emails. Admins who aren't on the list for that alert type no longer receive it. This applies to both the "disconnected" and the "connected again" emails.

In-app banner

Once recipients are set for an alert type, the disconnection banner for that alert type is shown only to the users on the list.

  • Email addresses that aren't Backup Radar users receive the email only, since they don't sign in to the app.
  • While no recipients are set for an alert type, the banner is shown to all Admin and Standard users, as before.

Going back to the default

If you remove every recipient, you'll see the message "No recipients selected: all account admins will receive every alert." Click Save and alerts go back to all account admins, the same as before you set up a list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I never set this up?
Nothing changes. All account admins keep receiving every alert email, and Admin and Standard users keep seeing the banner.

What happens when I remove a user from my account?
They're removed from the recipient list automatically. If that leaves an alert type with no recipients, that alert goes to all account admins again, so nothing gets missed.

Can I send alerts to someone who isn't a Backup Radar user?
Yes. Type their email address in the Add recipient field and press Enter. They'll get alert emails, but not the in-app banner.

Can I send PSA alerts and integration alerts to different people?
Yes. Use the PSA Health Alerts and API Integrations Health Alerts checkboxes to choose each recipient's alerts.

Does this change who receives backup failure alerts or reports?
No. These settings only cover PSA and API integration disconnection alerts.
