Follow the steps below to create an integration between Microsoft Azure and Backup Radar.

Who can use this feature?
• Administrator users.
• Standard users (who have been granted access).

Note: This integration only supports monitoring backups that are stored in Recovery Services Vaults or Data Protection Vaults.

For unsupported backups, your best bet is to integrate by redirecting your email reports to Backup Radar.

Note: This article captures third-party steps and/or an interface that may have since been updated.
  1. In your Backup Radar account, select Integration > Backup Integrations.
    Integration > Backup Integrations.png

  2. Click anywhere on the Azure tile.
    Click Microsoft Azure Tile.png

  3. Click Configure new source (button only appears if this is not your first Azure integration; otherwise, skip this step) to get to the next screen.
     Click Configure New Source.png

  4. Under Profile, add a profile name (e.g. your client's name) and continue to Run Automatic Configuration Wizard below.
    Enter Profile Name.png

Run Automatic Configuration Wizard

Run Automatic Configuration Wizard

This is the standard process for setting up your Azure integration.

What you'll need:
• A browser that's configured to allow pop ups.

  1. Click Run Automatic Configuration Wizard.

  2. Click Login with Microsoft and follow the steps to sign in with your Microsoft account. Ensure you're logging into a Microsoft account with adequate permissions. If you receive an error message on this step, follow the steps below to set up your integration manually instead.
    Click Login with Microsoft.png

  3. Configure the following Connection Details and click Sign in under selected tenant:
    Configure your Connection Details.png
    a. Tenant ID (Directory ID): Select the associated Tenant ID from your Azure directory for the client you're adding.
    b. Subscription ID: Select the appropriate Subscription ID for this tenant. Note that if your client has multiple subscriptions, you can repeat these steps as many times as needed to integrate them all.

  4. Select the Backup Radar Application ID (Client ID) for this client. If none exist, click Create new to generate a Client ID that you'll be able to select from the drop-down and click Finish.

  5. Under Client ID assignment, configure the following settings:
Note: This step is a common best practice. If your Azure subscription name or Azure recovery service vault name already match your desired outcome, you can feel free to skip this step.

    a. Client ID Assignment: Ensure this button is toggled on.
    b. Map Client ID from: Select Custom Value from the drop-down list.
    c. Default Client ID: Enter your desired Client ID. This can be any name you'd likewhatever makes sense as an identifier for your client.

  6. Under Vaults, select your desired resource group(s) and vault(s) and click Save.

Set up integration manually

Set up integration manually

If you'd prefer to set up your configuration manually, or if you receive an error message while running the Automatic Configuration Wizard, follow the steps below to set up your integration manually instead.

  1. Locate the following details in your Microsoft Azure account and enter them in Backup Radar:
    Manually enter connection details.png
    a. Tenant ID (Directory ID): Find your Tenant ID and enter it here.
    b. Subscription ID: Find your Subscription ID and enter it here.
    c. Application ID (Client ID): Register a new application. Under name, enter BackupRadar.com. Under Redirect URI (Optional), choose Web and enter https://backupradar.com. After registering, copy your Application (Client) ID and enter it here.
    d. Application Key (Client Secret): Create a client secret and enter it here.

Note: You may receive an error message after this step; you can ignore this for now, as Backup Radar will refresh and try to connect your integration as soon as at least these four elements have been entered.

  2. In Microsoft Azure, assign a role to your Azure profile. When selecting a scope, choose Subscriptions. Under Role, select Reader. When clicking Select members, choose BackupRadar.com.

  3. In Backup Radar, scroll down to Client ID Assignment and configure the following:
    Configure Client ID Assignment.png
    a. Enable the Client ID assignment toggle.
    b. Under Map Client ID from, select Custom Value.
    c. Under Default Client ID, enter your client's name.

Note: If you receive an error message at this step, try deleting and re-entering the last character from any of your Connection Details fields (e.g. Tenant ID (Directory ID)) to prompt a page refresh and resolve the error.

  4. In Microsoft Azure, confirm the name of your Recovery Services vault and Resource Group.

  5. In Backup Radar, under Vaults, select your desired items and click Save.
    Select Vault items.png

Note: Following a successful integration, you'll be returned to the Backup Integrations tab, where you can confirm your new integration source by looking for the Enabled checkmark icon.

Shortly, your backups will start populating in your Manage > Activate Backups screen and syncing hourly.

What's next?

Once you’ve set up all your integrations, your next step is mapping your clients to their backups.
